JRA Field Data Management System (FDMS)

Today's portable computers are making the work of retrieving, collecting, processing, storing and sending critical data onboard a rig or ship simple, reliable, timely and faultless. Proper hardware is essential but hardware is only as good as the software that runs it.

JRA is proud to announce the development of the Field Data Management System or (FDMS) software package concept. The FDMS solution is a balanced combination of hardware and custom software designed to match the needs of today's Drilling, Process or Marine field data applications.

Field Data Management System for Marine (Version 1.0)

The solution converts what is what is normally clipboard entered load logistics data into advanced electronic user "information". This much needed field created information can be called up, entered, stored and manipulated. The software communicates with the onboard JRA-Marine Advisory System (MAS) stability program to provide semi-automatic data entry to the MAS using a docking station or wireless interface. When used in conjunction with the JRA-MAS it virtually eliminates the manual data entry portion of the MAS program.

How much savings you might ask...how about an estimated 1250 man-hours per year on a typical oil platform making 5000 lifts per year. But that's not the best benefit. The FDMS substantially reduces most stability risks associated with load data entry error. Best of all the JRA-FDMS is easy to use. Consider the dockside commissioning process alone. FDMS-MAS Work Example: For our example of the work process differences using the JRA-Field Data Management System , we considered a case for "variable load and logistics management" aboard a typical offshore oilrig making an average 5000 lifts a year. We assigned typical estimated values to certain elements so a basis of comparison could be made.

Assumptions and Totals:

5000 lifts per year
Average 5 items needing to be tracked as an individual line item per lift totaling 25,000 total lines
Average 40 characters required per line entry totaling 1,000,000 total characters entered
Avg. 6 minutes per line item for manual entry totaling 75,000 total minutes (or) 1250 man-hours per year entering lines
